Fannia Bio

Fannia Xu

Stream Coach

Fannia has been involved in artistic swimming for 14 seasons now as an athlete, coach, and judge. She swam for 12 years at the provincial, national, and collegiate levels. Fannia completed her Bachelor of Science at UBC where she lead the team to their first and only overall collegiate national championship win in her final year.

Fannia joins PWAS from the varsity program at McGill University, where her team has won the CUASL national championship in both her years coaching. Prior to that, she coached during the summers at UBC and across the lower mainland. She enjoys coaching because it allows her to stay connected with the artistic swimming community and express her passion for the sport even after retiring. Her favourite part about coaching is dissecting the technical aspects of the sport, though she also enjoys expressing her creativity through choreography.

In addition to coaching, Fannia has been judging for 7 years and is a trained technical controller. She is also the president of the Canadian University Artistic Swimming League (CUASL).

Outside of synchro, Fannia recently completed a Masters in Neuroscience from McGill and is currently taking a gap year to study for the MCAT and apply to medical school and PhD programs. If you see her on deck, you can ask her about her newest crochet project or to see videos of her cat!
